What is a VI Peel?
VI Peel belongs to a category of cosmetic treatments known as “chemical peels.” As the name suggests, chemical peels use various chemical formulations to peel away the uppermost layers of your skin’s surface to expose the fresh, untouched, and unscarred skin underneath. Chemical peels are effective means of reversing superficial skin damage accumulated through weeks, months, or even years of sun exposure, aging, and other environmental factors.
Depending on the specific chemical formulation, chemical peels can be mild, moderate, or aggressive. VI Peel is the most popular moderate chemical peel formulation, consisting of mild concentrations of retinoic acid, salicylic acid, vitamin C, phenol, and TCA (trichloroacetic acid). This chemical formulation peels back and exfoliates several layers of skin, reversing mild to moderate signs of aging and skin damage while ensuring a short recovery period.

VI Peel Candidates
VI Peel is ideal for patients with mild to moderate signs of skin damage and aging, such as fine lines, moderate wrinkles, acne scars, pigmented spots, etc. Your VI Peel Portland provider will carefully examine your skin type and concerns to determine if you can truly benefit from a VI Peel — or if you need a deeper or more superficial treatment instead.
VI Peel Treatment Overview
Treatment
The VI Peel treatment will start with a thorough cleansing process to remove all the dirt, oil, and makeup debris from your skin. The personalized VI Peel solution will be applied over your skin in layers. You may experience a little stinging sensation and numbness after the first layer of VI Peel. As the second layer of VI Peel is applied over your skin, your skin will start frosting and exfoliating. Unlike deeper chemical peels, there’s no need to apply neutralizing solutions after the VI Peel. You can leave the clinic soon after applying the VI Peel mask, which you’ll have to wash off after approximately 5 to 6 hours.
Recovery
You’ll feel minor discomfort, swelling, redness, and a burning sensation after the VI Peel treatment. You can resume your normal activities and work after the first day, but you’ll have to avoid sun exposure and heavy exercises. Your skin will feel dry and irritated, and it will eventually start flaking off. You should continue applying skin moisturizers to protect your skin. You must also wear a powerful sunscreen whenever you have to go outside. You can resume all exercises after one week.
Results
You’ll notice immediately improved skin after the first treatment, with gradual improvements over the next few days as the old skin flakes off to reveal the younger skin underneath. However, you’ll need 4 to 6 VI Peel treatments for optimal results.
About Your Consultation
During your initial consultation, our advanced care providers will carefully examine your skin tone, skin type, and skin concerns to create a detailed skin analysis. They will also discuss your skin concerns and cosmetic goals to better formulate the treatment plan. Based on the skin analysis, they will curate the ideal VI Peel treatment plan for your specific needs. In some cases, they may recommend a preparatory retinoid and antiviral medication to prepare your skin for the upcoming treatment. You should avoid skin exfoliation and sun exposure for at least one week before the treatment to enhance the results and minimize the side effects.
